As a parent you may have questions / concerns and we understand...
1. My 8 year old wants to create a website. Is it safe for a 8 year old to have a website? How will it help my child?
We understand that safety for your children is paramount. For this reason we have chosen to work with an online template that is recognized by and provides special access to schools across the USA. In our very first session, we also cover what is safe and what is not on the internet.
The objectives of this course are to get children to:
A) Know how the internet works, what is good about it and what is not
B) Tap their imagination and creativity and provide them a platform to express their thoughts and views with confidence
C) Improve their communication skills by making them write their own content, review, edit and constantly update it
D) Provide them with an opportunity to learn more about an area that interests them through the constant research they will need to do to keep the site alive and up to date.
2. My Daughter is 9 years old, but she wants to learn how to Present her Work in Style, can she join that course?
or
My son already has a website. He is 10 years old and he is interested in "Present your Work in Style", can he enroll?
or
My child is 12 years old, but wants to enroll in the website creation course, can I register for that?
While the courses have been designed keeping in mind the abilities / interests of the prescribed age groups, we realise that a lot of children have special abilities or specific areas of interest. To accommodate for that fact, we most certainly encourage children of all age groups to join any course available. In order that we help you and your child make the right choice, we will do a short combined learning session with you and your child at a time convenient to you.
3. Why do you encourage kids to bring laptops? How is it secure?
As the nature of the activity that our courses promote uses a lot of creative input from children, our experience has been that children take their ideas back home with them after class and are most likely to try and accentuate their ideas through some additional work at home. What could be a better resource for your child at that point in the creative process than to have access to the scripts, storyboards etc he has already created and then to be able to collate additional material in the form of articles, pictures etc relevant to what they are doing? We have found that the overall learning experience is much more wholesome when children have access to a laptop during class and while at home.
BUT we do understand your concern about security, especially given that they will have access to the internet. To address this, we recommend that you create a specific log in for your child on the laptop and enable parental controls for the same. We will be happy to assist you in creating the same if you would like.
4. We just have a desktop at home but don’t have a laptop? Can we still enroll our child? Do you assist with laptops?
While we encourage children to have their own laptops, we could assist in such situations by providing laptops for class use on a case to case basis. However, we would still recommend that the child be provided with a USB Flash Drive in order to have an updated personal copy of the work created during class.
5. I want to enroll my son in 2 courses. He is 11 years and he is interested in both the "Build your Own Website" and the "Present your Work in Style" courses. Is there a discount for enrolling in both courses and could it be done in the same week as morning and afternoon sessions?
YES. You can enroll your child in both sessions the same week and we will offer you a bundled price for the same.
7. I want to enroll both my children in courses of their choice. Is there a discount?
YES. We offer discounts for sibling enrollments.
